Key Tips On Building Better Relationships

Please don't confuse searching for tips on relationships as some admission of failure. Relationships are complicated and getting a few tips on how to improve your relationship makes all the sense in the world. The worst thing you can do is let your pride and ego prevent you from accepting some sound advice regarding building a good relationship.

It's very likely that you have done some things in your relationship that given the chance to do it over you would have said or done things differently. I mean, I don't know anyone who has never said the wrong things out of frustration or perhaps acted out in such a way that it's borderline childish or embarrassing. Let's face it, we can all be a little selfish and immature at times.

Why is it that some relationships last for 20 to 30 years while others struggle just to make the first couple of anniversaries? No one can say for sure but I can offer you some tips on relationships that can help you get a solid foundation for the future.

First Tip On Relationships - Be Realistic

It is not uncommon for folks to be in a relationship with high expectations of having a different one in the future. In other words, they are dreaming about the relationship they desire, and are willing to wait for it. The best relationships evolve over time and do get stronger and better. However, you need to be careful and not expect your partner to meet your every need because he or she can't. If you have these unrealistic expectations, you will be disappointed and you will most likely continue to be frustrated and angry.

Now, please don't take this the wrong way. You can and should have a great relationship where you both can be satisfied and genuinely love each other. It will happen when you change your perspective and perhaps change yourself.

Second Tip On Relationships - Talk To and Not At Each Other

In a relationship that is having some communication challenges, you will notice that the couple's conversations sounds more like a debate club than a discussion. It's a struggle just to have a meaningful conversation. Communicating effectively with your partner is obviously a big part of the means to having a great relationship. There are so many relationships where partners are constantly in tense conversations or not talking at all.

If you want a loving relationship, please choose your words wisely. Let your conversations be seasoned with love and grace.

Third Tip On Relationships - Fight Fair And Only When Necessary

Fighting fair is one of the make or break tips on relationships. If you learn how to fight to help save your relationship instead of destroying your relationship your odds of overcoming obstacles in your marriage will be greater.

Here are a few suggestions;
  • Don't hold grudges - When you say it's resolved, let it go.
  • Be mature and apologize when you are wrong.
  • Don't let your emotions get the best of you - Be careful not to lose it and say hurtful things that you will later regret. Definitely don't do things to get back at your partner. The goal should always be to get better and not even.
Please know that the marriage you have now that is frustrating and disappointing doesn't have to stay that way. Don't buy into the belief that it's just the way marriage is or a leopard can't change his spots. You have the power to get the marriage you so need and desire.
